Twas the Hunt Before Christmas

‘Twas a month before Christmas And I grabbed my gun, To hunt the wiley wapiti, Hoping to get a big one. I chanced upon a big elk track Pressed deep in the snow, The tips of its cloven hoofs Pointed the way I should go. The track was a bit strange, Just different, somehow. But they were big and deep, Likely a bull and not a cow. I finally got a glimpse Of a grayish-colored hide, Gray?…elk are usually black on the neck And reddish tan on the side. There! The tip of an antler! Positively a bull! I raised…

Aborting a tumor?

In trying to justify abortion, some argue “That is not a baby in the womb.  It is not a baby until it is born.”  Question:  Then what is it?  An amorphous mass like a tumor?  It’s of no more consequence to remove it than to remove a tumor?  Think seriously.  It moves.  It responds to stimuli.  It will eventually BE a baby, a child, a teenager, an adult, a parent, a grandparent. She forgets all about those last few words and hits high volume the first time her husband mortgages the dog and the kids to go on an elk hunt in Wyoming. She joins with…

Two recent incidents of grizzlies killing humans have been emotionally tragic. On September 14, 2018, hunting guide Mark Uptain was killed by a grizzly and his hunter was injured in the Teton Wilderness Area north of Jackson, Wyoming. Mark left a wife and five children. I, Jonesy, took his teenage daughter on a horseback ride with some friends two or three weeks later. It helped her deal with her grief. Very recently, on November 26, 2018, a mother and her 10 month old daughter were killed by a grizzly in Yukon Territory. They had been living in a remote cabin…
